Amsterdam- Holiday Snaps and Outfits

I’ve just come back from a girls holiday spent in Amsterdam, Holand. We went for 3 nights from Monday to Thursday this week and had the most amazing time. Our days were jam-packed so we’d definitely like to return in the near future to see more of this beautiful city.

Getting to Amsterdam was surprisingly easy with the flight being only around 50 minutes which for me is the same amount of time getting a train into London- by the time I had finished reading the EasyJet magazine I was taken a back to hear the announcement- “Cabin crew prepare for landing.” When we arrived at Schiphol Airport a few stops on the train took us into central Amsterdam and then a 20 minute walk to our hotel. We stayed at ITC Hotel which overlooks the Prinsengracht and it is in a great central location, walking distance of the city’s hot spots.

Amsterdam is a stunning and buzzing city and the people are very welcoming and down to earth. The Dutch also speak amazing English so although I felt guilty not being able to speak a word of Dutch, it was very convenient. I would definitely like to return to see more of the city and maybe hire out some bicycles next time to make full use of the cities many bike lanes.

Activities/Food:

  • Rijksmuseum– Dutch national museum of art and history from the Middle Ages to the present day. It was definitely worth seeing including paintings by Van Gogh and Rembrandt. There were also breathtaking old dolls houses and delicate china vases and plates in the Dutch style. If you are 18 and under this museum is also free.
  • Eye– Film institute in striking modern building, accessed by a free short ferry ride. There was an exhibition about film cameras with lots of interactive activities such as taking quizzes in the pods and filming short clips.
  • Vintage Shops– If you are into vintage clothing, Amsterdam is the perfect place to visit with many great vintage shops scattered about the city. I would say that many were slightly pricey but it was still fun to browse and my favourite was called Laura Dols which is known to have the largest collection of vintage glitter and glamour in the Netherlands and specialises in 50s clothing and accessories.
  • I amsterdam– A good place to take photos but I couldn’t manage to climb right on top of the letters!
  • Sex Museum– Although a very dated museum, if you are up for a laugh then I’d recommend going plus it’s only 4 euros entry.
  • Blue Boat Canal Cruise– Definitely would recommend doing a canal cruise since it’s the best way to see an overview of the whole city and we did an evening cruise at 8.00pm which lasts 90 minutes and is 19.50 euros with one free drink. It was lovely seeing all the buildings lit up at night but unfortunately a massive rain storm started during the middle of the cruise and although it was a covered boat there was lots of dripping from the ceiling and steamed up windows.
  • Hummbar Lobster and Burgers– We had some amazing burgers at Hummbar and I went for the Italian burger which was devine and also huge, with lots of chips.
  • The Pancake Bakery– Famous for it’s delicious pancakes and has been visited by celebrities including Miley Cyrus. I usually have nutella pancakes but wanted to try something different so I opted for pineapple with yogurt icecream which was really good. My friends went for slightly more calorific options with lashings of whipped cream on top and consequently we all felt very sick after consuming the massive pancakes.
  • Coco’s Outback– Although it seems wrong to be going to an Australian pub in Amsterdam, if you are after some tasty cheap cocktails this is the place to go and I would recommend the Strawberry Daiquiri and Gummy Bear Martini. Also they have a happy hour from 10:00-11:00pm where drinks are served at a reduced price.

3 Looks- London Travels

Hey guys! Today’s blog post features 3 outfits that I wore when I stayed with my sister in London last week. I had such a fun time and did lots of shopping and fun activities. Hope you like- Enjoy!

Look 1- Florals and Denim

Here I am standing in front of the Monki store on Carnaby Street. My floral blouse is from Monki and I’ve worn it to death since I purchased it last summer and I usually pair it with my denim skirt from Asos which always rides up- it’s not always this short- urgh! I’m wearing my tan sandals from Office, Cambridge Satchel (worn throughout) and Olivia Burton watch.

  • Asos A-line denim mini skirt
  • Office Tan Leather Sandals
  • Cambridge Satchel Navy and Blush Bag
  • Olivia Burton Black Leather Strap Watch

Look 2- Fifties Glamour

I wore this outfit for a job interview at Canary Wharf and most of the items are my sister’s since I forgot to pack smart clothes. I love my sister’s patterned midi skirt from Stradivarius as it creates the perfect fifties hourglass silhouette. Into the skirt, I tucked in a navy v-neck blouse with lace on the sleeves (again my sister’s) from Banana Republic. Since this blouse has quite a low neckline it looks good with a small dainty necklace on a short chain and mine is from Accessorise. I wore the same shoes and bag as my last look.

  • Banana Republic Navy V-neck Blouse
  • Accessorize Dainty Silver Necklace
  • Sandals and Bag (Same as above)

Look 3- Patterned Culottes

I purchased these amazing scarf print culottes from Zara about a month ago and I am still obsessed with them! I wore them out to dinner and a walk along the South Bank and styled them with this turquoise ribbed top from Topshop. I then slipped on my rose gold Ipanema sandals and opted for my favourite necklace from & Other Stories which seems to look great with everything!

OOTD- Summer Maxi Dress

Just a quick OOTD blog post today! This OOTD is from a few weeks ago when I wore it to work on one of the hottest days of the year- around 30 degrees! I bought this dress from Coco Marie, a womenswear boutique where I work and it’s from Superdry. The relaxed floaty fit and cami straps make it ideal for very hot days and what really sold me with this dress was the gorgeous stripe tie-dye print on dark blue background. This dress has low armholes and back so I wear it with a navy bandeau from Asos but it’s also a great piece to throw over a bikini on holiday. I paired my dress with my rose gold sandals from Ipanema and Mango silver paisley pendant necklace. I kept my makeup very natural since it would have all melted off anyway! Hope you like- Enjoy!

Less is more- Stripes + White Jeans OOTD

Hey guys! Yesterday was such a beautiful sunny day so I thought I’d whip out my white jeans from Superdry. I wouldn’t usually shop at Superdry but it is one of the brands which Coco Marie (the boutique shop I work at) stocks and this season they have come out with some great pieces! I styled my white skinnies with Ralph Lauren v-neck striped navy and white tee and then added Office patent loathers with flatform. To layer, I threw my La Redoute denim jacket over my shoulders and for accessories I opted for my mum’s navy cross-body bag and dainty gold chain necklace. I wore this outfit for a girly day out shopping in Oxford and afterwards I went to see my friend in a theatre production called ‘Mermaid’ at the Oxford Playhouse. Before I went, when realising how hot it was, I actually changed into a skirt as jeans would have been a bit too hot. I really like this outfit as it’s very minimal and goes by the saying: ‘less is more’. I hope you like it too- Enjoy!

Fashion Revolution Day 2015

Hey guys! Last Friday, the 24th of April, was Fashion Revolution day. It is a day which raises awareness about ethical and sustainable fashion and encourages us to ask ourselves “Who made my clothes?” therefore bridging the gap between producer and consumer.

Every Fashion Revolution day lots of events are organised internationally. My sister decided to host an event which took place in Marble Arch, London. The event was called ‘ The People’s Photoshoot’ and it involved 3 steps: Pick, Pose, Post.

Pick: people choose from a selection of postcards addressed to well-known brands

Pose: then they take a photo with one of the postcards

Post: after they are asked to use social media to send it to the brand and ask the brand: “Who made my clothes?”

The designer jumble sale:

At the same venue in Marble Arch there was also a designer jumble sale with amazing discounted garments. At the sale I also met Susie Bubble, one of the most well-known fashion bloggers, who was doing some styling at the event.

Event at The Cube:

Afterwards we also helped set up another event at The Cube in Shoreditch which invited people to cut the labels out of their clothing and stick it on black board or a map corresponding to the country in which it was produced.

Overall I had a really fun day and was honoured to be involved in events organised to promote Fashion Revolution. Unfortunately the fashion industry does have a negative impact on many workers and the environment but Fashion Revolution aims to change the attitude towards buying clothing and that our decision to buy a garment should not only be influenced by the price, style and fit of the end product but also the conditions in which it was made, treatment of the workers and many other ethical and environmental factors. So, do tweet your favourite brands asking them #whomademyclothes and also use the hashtag #FashRev.

OOTD- Pink Duster Coat- Weekend in London

Last week, I spent the weekend in London. On Saturday, I went to the ‘Horst- Photographer of Style’ exhibition at the V&A Museum and it was fantastic! Sunday marked my friend Rachel’s 18th birthday and we celebrated on a speed boat experience along the Thames and had champagne under Tower Bridge- it was so much fun! On Saturday, I wore my new peachy pink jacquard duster coat which I bought in the Zara sale in the summer. This coat is a more suitable style and colour for Spring but I wanted to get a couple more wears out of it before it starts getting really cold. I have styled this gorgeous coat with my Zara pleated cream chiffon top, Fat Face navy jeggings and Pedro Miralles blush pumps with block heel. To accessorize, I added a navy cross body bag (my mum’s) and &OtherStories pink jem necklace. I’m loving this coat and can’t wait to style it with more pastel coloured items in the spring! Hope you like- Enjoy!

OOTD- Burgundy Leather-look Skirt and Lace Bomber

Hey guys! Today’s post is an OOTD with the main element being my new burgundy leather-look A-line skirt which I brought whilst in Italy at a shop called Stradivarius and I especially love the two big pockets on the front. I then tucked in my H&M striped blouse- a piece that I believe is a definite wardrobe essential- you can never go wrong with stripes! Then for added texture and intrigue I threw on this beautiful navy lace bomber jacket from Miss Selfridge which is a great transitional piece from summer to autumn and I love how the lace juxtaposes the sporty bomber shape creating a more feminine look. For shoes I nabbed my Mum’s navy square-toe courts and I finished off the look with Accessorise navy jeweled earrings, plaited up-do and berry lips. Hope you like- Enjoy!

Style Inspiration- Burgundy Leather

collage

Loving how these fashionistas have styled their burgundy leather skirts- Blogger Miroslava Duma looks incredible in brick red tone midi leather skirt paired with matching cape. Alexa Chung gives her leather mini an edgy feel with burgundy long-sleeve polar neck and slipper pumps whilst Kate Bosworth keeps it elegant and sophisticated pairing hers with classic white blouse and grey coat worn over the shoulders.
