MY NEW BLOG- Anna Lucia Says

Hey guys! I decided to change my blog name since I’ve grown tired of ‘Vintage Vicar’ and felt it may lead to people actually thinking that I am a vicar! I’ve often felt embarrassed when telling people it’s name so this time round I’ve gone for something more simple: ‘Anna Lucia Says’ which hopefully I won’t become bored of any time soon!

I’ve uploaded some of my old blog posts to my new one and I would love it if you could take a look at my new blog! Vintage Vicar will stay live but I won’t be posting anymore onto this blog.

Check it out: http://annaluciasays.com/

Thanks! 🙂

Amsterdam- Holiday Snaps and Outfits

I’ve just come back from a girls holiday spent in Amsterdam, Holand. We went for 3 nights from Monday to Thursday this week and had the most amazing time. Our days were jam-packed so we’d definitely like to return in the near future to see more of this beautiful city.

Getting to Amsterdam was surprisingly easy with the flight being only around 50 minutes which for me is the same amount of time getting a train into London- by the time I had finished reading the EasyJet magazine I was taken a back to hear the announcement- “Cabin crew prepare for landing.” When we arrived at Schiphol Airport a few stops on the train took us into central Amsterdam and then a 20 minute walk to our hotel. We stayed at ITC Hotel which overlooks the Prinsengracht and it is in a great central location, walking distance of the city’s hot spots.

Amsterdam is a stunning and buzzing city and the people are very welcoming and down to earth. The Dutch also speak amazing English so although I felt guilty not being able to speak a word of Dutch, it was very convenient. I would definitely like to return to see more of the city and maybe hire out some bicycles next time to make full use of the cities many bike lanes.

Activities/Food:

  • Rijksmuseum– Dutch national museum of art and history from the Middle Ages to the present day. It was definitely worth seeing including paintings by Van Gogh and Rembrandt. There were also breathtaking old dolls houses and delicate china vases and plates in the Dutch style. If you are 18 and under this museum is also free.
  • Eye– Film institute in striking modern building, accessed by a free short ferry ride. There was an exhibition about film cameras with lots of interactive activities such as taking quizzes in the pods and filming short clips.
  • Vintage Shops– If you are into vintage clothing, Amsterdam is the perfect place to visit with many great vintage shops scattered about the city. I would say that many were slightly pricey but it was still fun to browse and my favourite was called Laura Dols which is known to have the largest collection of vintage glitter and glamour in the Netherlands and specialises in 50s clothing and accessories.
  • I amsterdam– A good place to take photos but I couldn’t manage to climb right on top of the letters!
  • Sex Museum– Although a very dated museum, if you are up for a laugh then I’d recommend going plus it’s only 4 euros entry.
  • Blue Boat Canal Cruise– Definitely would recommend doing a canal cruise since it’s the best way to see an overview of the whole city and we did an evening cruise at 8.00pm which lasts 90 minutes and is 19.50 euros with one free drink. It was lovely seeing all the buildings lit up at night but unfortunately a massive rain storm started during the middle of the cruise and although it was a covered boat there was lots of dripping from the ceiling and steamed up windows.
  • Hummbar Lobster and Burgers– We had some amazing burgers at Hummbar and I went for the Italian burger which was devine and also huge, with lots of chips.
  • The Pancake Bakery– Famous for it’s delicious pancakes and has been visited by celebrities including Miley Cyrus. I usually have nutella pancakes but wanted to try something different so I opted for pineapple with yogurt icecream which was really good. My friends went for slightly more calorific options with lashings of whipped cream on top and consequently we all felt very sick after consuming the massive pancakes.
  • Coco’s Outback– Although it seems wrong to be going to an Australian pub in Amsterdam, if you are after some tasty cheap cocktails this is the place to go and I would recommend the Strawberry Daiquiri and Gummy Bear Martini. Also they have a happy hour from 10:00-11:00pm where drinks are served at a reduced price.

Street Style- My Cousins

Hey guys! A street style post today based around my cousins’ style. My cousins Hannah (12 years) and Benny (7 years) come to England every summer and we go to the coast as a family- this year we stayed in Newquay, Cornwall. Hannah and Benny live in Berlin, Germany and are bilingual as my uncle is English and my auntie is German. It still truly amazes me how quickly they can switch from English to German and then back into English! I thought it would be a fun idea to do a blog post on their style and so I took photos of some outfits which Hannah and Benny wore whilst we were on holiday together- Enjoy!

Hannah

When Hannah was younger she embraced German style which involved odd socks, long tunic tops worn with leggings underneath and clashing prints. However, especially this year, I’ve noticed that her style has changed. As with many pre-teens and teens living Europe, her style is sporty and predominantly casual but I think elements such as the denim boiler suit, printed crop top and feminine white dress are more typical of British style. Therefore, her style is a fusion of German and British which signifies that both German and British culture have influenced Hannah’s clothing choices. Hannah always does lots of shopping whilst she is in the UK and her favourite shops are River Island, Topshop and Next. For Hannah, her Topshop high-waisted black jeans are staple and she pairs them with crop tops, oversized sweaters, hoodies and sporty bomber jacket. Here are five outfits that she wore whilst in Cornwall:

Outfit 1

Hannah paired Topshop high-waisted black jeans with monochrome butterfly crop t-shirt. Straw hat from &OtherStories and Clarks block heels were both borrowed stolen from my sister which demonstrates that Hannah often wants to replicate my sister and I’s style.

Outfit 2

On a chillier day in Cornwall Hannah threw on light wash denim boiler suit/jumpsuit with drawstring waist which really suits her and is a very versatile and stand-out piece. To finish off the look, she opted for peach hoodie and Nike trainers.

Outfit 3

It’s those black jeans again- this time styled with grey sweater with fun floral peace print. The oversized sweater works well with skinny jeans in order to balance out the silhouette and Nike trainers are the perfect choice of shoes for this look.

Outfit 4

This look is probably my favourite as Hannah just looks so cute in this white button up dress from Element. Paired with vibrant yellow beach bag and coral Toms espadrilles it’s an ideal outfit for a sunny day.

Outfit 5

I just love Hannah’s bomber jacket from Hummel, a German sportswear company and she chose to wear it with her Topshop black jeans and underneath she is wearing New Look stripey crop top with peter pan collar which was a hand-me-down from me. Earlier in the day she was wearing purple flip flops but later on changed into her coral Toms.

Benny

Benny is only 7 so his style hasn’t changed as much as Hannah’s has in recent years but similarly to Hannah, his style is sporty and he’s not afraid of experimenting with colour. His interests also come through in his clothing for example his England Football polo shirt. I didn’t manage to take as many photos of Benny’s outfits as he was slightly less willing than Hannah but here are three outfits that he wore whilst on holiday:

Outfit 1

Benny wore this outfit on a cold windy day and he layered a green hoodie with Vaude red and green waterproof jacket. Then, he added turquoise skinny jeans and light grey Converse.

Outfit 2

This outfit works well through the pairing different tones of blue- navy polo shirt and light blue shorts.

Outfit 3

I’m in love with Benny’s new River Island t-shirt which has a maroon, light grey and white section in marl effect fabric- I’d quite like it for myself! His turquoise jeans look great with the maroon in the t-shirt and grey Converse complete the look.

My New Obsession- Pom Pom Keyring

Hey guys! I’ve seen lots of celebrities wearing these pom pom keyrings on their handbags recently and I think they really add an element of fun to any outfit! I searched the internet for pom pom keyrings and wasn’t that taken with any I found and so gave up my search momentarily. When working in the shop, a lady came in with a really big fluffy keyring on her bag and she had bought it from Nicole’s Boutique in Old Amersham. Unfortunately, when I went there they had sold out but luckily the brand, Helen Moore, has an online website so I ordered one off there instead. I opted for one in Powder Blue since I thought it would work really well with my pink Coccinelle handbag. It arrived today so I had to blog about it straight away and it’s a really nice quality faux fur. I love it so much and I thought I’d style an outfit wearing it. I paired my bag with Banana Republic monochrome geometric crop top, Monki high-waisted denim shorts and Accessorize silver hoops. Hope you like- Enjoy!

OOTD- Country Walks

Yesterday I had a really fun day with my friend Rachel and we went on a lovely country walk to Waterperry Gardens. I thought I’d do a blog post showing you what Rachel and I wore. Hope you like- Enjoy!

My Outfit

I decided to wear my mum’s floral maxi skirt which has a ditsy floral print and pleats- it’s also very floaty which makes it ideal for summer. I styled it with this cream silk strappy cami which my mum used to wear as nightwear but I love to wear it in summer as it’s very breathable and light. I’m wearing my Ipanema rose gold sandals that I have worn to death recently as they are so comfy and go with most outfits and then I threw on my favourite handbag which is from Coccinelle. I accessorised with a long chain necklace, sunglasses and pearl earrings.

  • Cyrillus Blue Floral Pleated Maxi Skirt
  • Ipanema Rose Gold Sandals
  • Mango Silver Paisley Pendant Necklace

Rachel’s Outfit

Rachel wore a classic white skirt with a denim miniskirt and finished the look with Birkenstock sandals (borrowed from her sister) and sunglasses. Her necklace is from H&M and it comes with lots of different coloured pendants which you can choose from and yesterday she wore the black circular pendant.

3 Looks- London Travels

Hey guys! Today’s blog post features 3 outfits that I wore when I stayed with my sister in London last week. I had such a fun time and did lots of shopping and fun activities. Hope you like- Enjoy!

FotorCreated

Look 1- Florals and Denim

Here I am standing in front of the Monki store on Carnaby Street. My floral blouse is from Monki and I’ve worn it to death since I purchased it last summer and I usually pair it with my denim skirt from Asos which always rides up- it’s not always this short- urgh! I’m wearing my tan sandals from Office, Cambridge Satchel (worn throughout) and Olivia Burton watch.

20150703_152457

  • Monki Pink Floral Swing Blouse
  • Asos A-line denim mini skirt
  • Office Tan Leather Sandals
  • Cambridge Satchel Navy and Blush Bag
  • Olivia Burton Black Leather Strap Watch

Look 2- Fifties Glamour

I wore this outfit for a job interview at Canary Wharf and most of the items are my sister’s since I forgot to pack smart clothes. I love my sister’s patterned midi skirt from Stradivarius as it creates the perfect fifties hourglass silhouette. Into the skirt, I tucked in a navy v-neck blouse with lace on the sleeves (again my sister’s) from Banana Republic. Since this blouse has quite a low neckline it looks good with a small dainty necklace on a short chain and mine is from Accessorise. I wore the same shoes and bag as my last look.

  • Stradivarius Patterned Neoprene Full Midi Skirt
  • Banana Republic Navy V-neck Blouse
  • Accessorize Dainty Silver Necklace
  • Sandals and Bag (Same as above)

Look 3- Patterned Culottes

I purchased these amazing scarf print culottes from Zara about a month ago and I am still obsessed with them! I wore them out to dinner and a walk along the South Bank and styled them with this turquoise ribbed top from Topshop. I then slipped on my rose gold Ipanema sandals and opted for my favourite necklace from & Other Stories which seems to look great with everything!

OOTD- Summer Maxi Dress

Just a quick OOTD blog post today! This OOTD is from a few weeks ago when I wore it to work on one of the hottest days of the year- around 30 degrees! I bought this dress from Coco Marie, a womenswear boutique where I work and it’s from Superdry. The relaxed floaty fit and cami straps make it ideal for very hot days and what really sold me with this dress was the gorgeous stripe tie-dye print on dark blue background. This dress has low armholes and back so I wear it with a navy bandeau from Asos but it’s also a great piece to throw over a bikini on holiday. I paired my dress with my rose gold sandals from Ipanema and Mango silver paisley pendant necklace. I kept my makeup very natural since it would have all melted off anyway! Hope you like- Enjoy!

Summer Haul- 5 Looks

I’ve been shopping! Spending a week in London staying with my sister meant that I had plenty of time to hit the shops and check out the summer sales. Recently, I have been downscaling my wardrobe and throwing out lots of clothes and I discovered that after this ‘de-clutter’ I could do with some more plain basic pieces as in general I tend to lean towards more stand-out patterned clothing. Also, I wear a lot of blue and navy so I wanted to try out some different colours- which explains the orange skirt! I have created 5 looks with my new purchases and also tried them on- I haven’t showed my face in this blog post as I couldn’t be bothered to put on makeup since I spent the day at home doing some more sorting of old junk. I hope you like- Enjoy!

Monochrome and Florals

When I saw this coat in Zara it was love at first sight! I’m a sucker for oversized tailoring and the black flowers on pale blue background create a stunning contrast. This coat also really reminds me of a Miu Miu collection a few years ago which is an added bonus seeing as this gorgeous coat was only £39.99 on sale, instead of a few thousand. For this look I’ve let the coat do the talking and styled it with my new Banana Republic white blouse and new Stradivarius black front pocket a-line skirt. To accessorize, I added my Coccinelle pink bag. I’ll have to wait a while to wear this outfit as it’s a bit too warm for this time of year but weirdly I’m quite excited for it to get a bit colder so I can wear it!

Orange Skirt

This orange skirt from the Zara sale is quite out of my comfort zone but I really love it! It’s also my favourite style of skirt- front pockets and a-line- very Sixties! I’ve paired this skirt with my new Zara sale cross-over three-quarter length sleeve blouse in light grey. To finish off this look I added this rose gold chocker from H&M.

Geometric and Mint

I recently bought this mint blouse from Second Female and it’s a great wardrobe essential! I’ve chosen to style it with my new Stradivarius geometric print skirt and it’s made from neoprene so it’s got great structure. Light pink minimal heeled sandals from M&S and &OtherStories pink stone pendant necklace complete the outfit.

  • Second Female Textured Mint Blouse
  • Stradivarius Geometric Print Neoprene Shift Skirt

Laser and High-waisted Shorts

I love my new laser-work light pink tee from Banana Republic and it looks great styled with my new H&M navy high-waisted shorts as the top is slightly cropped. This silver coin necklace from Miss Selfridge looks lovely on the high neckline of the top and my new Banana Republic sale cream clutch bag is a nice touch.

  • Banana Republic Laser Pink T-shirt
  • H&M High-waisted Navy Shorts
  • Banana Republic Cream Clutch
  • Miss Selfridge Coin Necklace (comes in set of 3)

Black Culottes Evening Look

For the last outfit I thought I’d create an evening look. I recently purchased these amazing black culottes from Mademoiselle through La Redoute.com and they are so comfy as well as very stylish. Since the culottes are wide leg I opted for a tighter top- dark green v-neck crop top from Brandy Melville. For accessories, I chose my Mango simple wrist strap clutch, Red Herring black heels and gold laser-work statement necklace from a gift shop in Oxford.
